Established more than 20 years ago as Quality Fencing & Supply,
the company’s primary focus was on the sales and installation of fencing.
Fencing in those days was mostly galvanized steel or wood and, while
there was some plastic fencing, it was usually a blend of polymers.
This was often a not very attractive white that later turned yellow
and, while the materials could be expected to last for years without
maintenance, there were not many choices in fencing style. The biggest
advantage of plastic products in those days was the perception that
they were maintenance-free.
Gate hardware was always a problem. Made
of painted steel, hinges and latches weren’t
particularly strong; they would often sag, and usually rusted after
a few years. Poorly fabricated gates and unsupported fence rails would
sag as well.
The owner of Quality Fencing & Supply, unhappy with the unreliability
of certain products, determined to fabricate his own designs. Consistent
with standards of quality in place in Lancaster County, PA for years,
his thought was: build it better, make it last, give a customer better
value for the money that they invested in their fencing and reduce call
back.
Gate hardware was redesigned and fabricated
of food Grade 304 stainless steel, then powder-coated
black and, most recently, white in some styles. Expected to last a
lifetime the gate hardware carries a lifetime warranty.
Glued-on tops for picket fencing were often a problem. After a time
the tops would come loose and sometimes go missing. While they can be
replaced, not only is it a hassle but the replacements seldom look the
same as the other pickets that have weathered. Quality Fencing & Supply
introduced the patented one-piece Pinched Picket, which is formed and
glued at the top. These pickets, available in bulk quantities to individual
fabricators, are used in fencing installations coast to coast.
Over the years, Quality Fencing & Supply has provided the fencing
industry with components that are not only innovative but also cost
effective and reliable. Most are warranted for life.
For Quality Fencing & Supply, “quality first, quality always”
became the standard. A family business, all of the sons old enough to
work in the business were included. Those still in school helped after
hours---in addition to their other chores.
Today the company, renamed Superior Plastic Products, is owned and
operated by those sons. The five brothers involved in the business attend
to all of the requirements necessary to service not only a local network
of 150 or so dealers but they provide materials to dealers and installers
all over the United States. It’s not uncommon to see fencing and other
products manufactured by the company when watching your favorite program
on television. A younger brother waits in line to enter the business.
In addition to offering dozens of fencing
styles, the company now manufactures the widest variety of 100% PVC
Post and Railing systems available in the country. They insist on only
the highest grade of materials, chosen to retain their color and resist
the effects of harsh climate conditions wherever they might be installed.
As you will see throughout this web site, efforts have been made to
make installation of the systems as easy and efficient as possible.
Most of the railing styles are available in boxed, bracketed sections
complete with all necessary hardware and instructions. Porch and newel
posts have been designed to match balusters or, as many people do, styles
can be mixed and matched according to preference.
In most cases, railing is reinforced with
aluminum channel designed for the greatest strength and reliability.
Most styles are tested to comply with Section 4.2 (structural testing
of guardrail systems) of the ICC-ES AC174 (July 1, 2006) building codes.
Structural porch posts, which contain an aluminum inner post, can be
secured at the top and bottom for maximum “uplift” demands. These posts
include both the top and bottom mounting plates and installation instructions.
Completing the railing line, large, all vinyl
balustrade systems with the same type of installation and lifetime warranty
as the other vinyl post and railing in the line, are available with
a variety of round, square or design columns.
Meeting ADA requirements, an aluminum reinforced,
round handrail system is available that is
installed as a “stand alone” or “add on” to existing non-compliant
guardrails. This system is available with a wide variety of pre-bent
elbows that range from 5 to 90 degrees.
All of these aforementioned systems are warranted for life, with most
meeting national building codes when properly installed.
Rounding out the vinyl line is an attractive
array of yard accents, including pergolas, arbors, trellises, picnic
tables, benches, planters, and more. Yard accents, wherever possible,
use the same decorative designs as the porch post and railing styles.
Most of the items in the yard accent group include installation accessories
for ground or deck installations.
Keeping up with growth includes not only adding new designs but also
the ability to manufacture and deliver products in a timely way. Soon
the company will move into two new facilities, improving not only the
ability to purchase materials more efficiently, but to manufacture and
ship orders with minimum turnaround.
From the time of its inception, Superior Plastic Products, Inc (formerly
Quality Fencing & Supply) has worked diligently to provide products
that are not only attractive in design but are manufactured of the finest
materials available and built to last.
